Kenneth Walker III
Summary
Kenneth Walker III was selected in Round 2 (#41 Overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Michigan State University. Walker transferred from Wake Forest to Michigan State and produced a historic 2021 season, rushing for 1,636 yards and 18 touchdowns, while averaging 6.2 yards per carry. His performance earned him the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back and First-Team All-American honors, cementing his status as a premier NFL prospect. In the NFL through the 2024 season, he has totaled 2,600+ rushing yards, 20+ rushing touchdowns, and consistent explosive-run production, while also contributing as a receiver. Walker was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month multiple times in 2022 and finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Off the field, Walker is widely regarded as a high-character, humble, reserved, and team-oriented professional.
Strengths
Creator: Immediate explosion through the hole and creates chunk plays. Creates yards when blocking breaks down and showcases exceptional anticipation to find holes before they open.
Home-Run Ability: Capable of turning routine carries into long touchdowns. Great explosiveness and breakaway rate when hitting the second level and consistently ranks among league leaders in runs of 15+ yards.
Contact Balance: Runs through arm tackles and maintains momentum after contact. Runs with confidence and edge embracing workload responsibility.
Patience & Lateral Agility: Reads leverage well while staying decisive at speed. Exceptional jump cuts and sudden change-of-direction ability.
Weaknesses
Pass Protection: Willing but inconsistent technique and recognition.
Receiving Ability: Good with the ball in space on screens or swings but can take his eyes off the ball leading to concentration drops.
Production vs. Loaded Boxes: Can be slowed when forced into heavy traffic early. Relies more on burst than power in tight spaces.
Durability Management: Physical style requires workload monitoring.
Outlook
Walker is an excellent fit for Seattle’s offense as a featured explosive runner capable of defining defensive game plans. He thrives in zone-based and spread run concepts that allow him to press the line, read leverage, and explode into space, while also benefiting from misdirection and play-action looks. His ability to create on his own gives Seattle flexibility even when blocking isn’t perfect. Looking ahead, Walker projects as a long-term RB1 with Pro Bowl upside. While continued development in pass protection and as a receiver will determine whether he becomes a true three-down back, his explosiveness and production already make him a centerpiece of the offense. With proper workload balance and complementary backfield support, Walker has the tools to remain one of the league’s most dangerous and impactful runners for years to come and is hitting the prime of his career.
