Jack Bech
Summary
Jack Bech was selected in Round 2 (#58 Overall) in the 2025 Draft out of Texas Christian University (TCU). Bech started his career at Louisiana State University (LSU) before moving over to the Horned Frogs where he compiled 62 receptions, 1,034 yards, 9 touchdowns, earning Second-Team All-Big 12 Honors. Bech’s strong final season earned him a call to the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL, where he was recognized as a standout performer and boosted his draft stock.
Strengths
Strong, physical build (6-1, ~214 lbs): Allows him to play with a toughness and presence at the catch point. CBS Sports
Excellent hands and ball-tracking ability: Adjusted to off-target throws and showed very few drops (only four drops on ~200 targets over four seasons) which speaks to his reliability. CBS Sports
Advanced route tree for a player of his size: He ran hitches, slants, outs, digs, posts and some go-routes (rather than being one-dimensional). CBS Sports
Good short-area quickness for his size: Loose hips, good footwork, ability to stop and change direction effectively which helps in separation especially against zone coverage. CBS Sports
Willingness to block and contribute in the run game: Shows competitive mindset and team-first attitude as reported by coaches. CBS Sports
Weaknesses
Speed and separation may be a concern: He doesn’t have elite long-speed, which may limit his ability to consistently beat top NFL cornerbacks deep or get big separation in vertical schemes. CBS Sports
Concerns about his ability to consistently beat man-to-man coverage: Although his footwork is generally good, his efficiency dropped against man coverage compared to zone in his breakout year. CBS Sports
Blocking technique and consistency could use improvement: Effort is there, but execution — especially sustaining blocks — was flagged as inconsistent. CBS Sports
Late-career breakout and past injury history present risk: He had limited production early, a high-ankle sprain requiring surgery, and his first really big season came at age 22/23. CBS Sports
Fit & Outlook
Jack Bech fits best as a possession-type outside (and possibly slot) receiver in an offense that values technical route-running, contested-catch ability, and doing the dirty work. Given his build, hands, and body control, he is well suited for intermediate-to-deep-crossing routes, 3-step patterns, play-action and mixed looks rather than a pure vertical burner. In his new setting with the Raiders, he should be able to contribute early — especially in sets where he can work the bottom half of the field, use his body to shield defenders, and make contested catches. Over time, with refined footwork and better technique in man coverage, his upside is solid: while he may not become a true “X” field-stretching threat, he has the makings of a dependable WR2/3 who can be trusted in critical situations. Injuries and his still-improving separation ability represent manageable risks. With the right scheme and coaching, Bech has the potential to carve out a meaningful role and possibly grow into a consistent target for his quarterback.
