Foye Oluokun
Summary
Foyesade Oluokun was selected in the 6th Round (#200 Overall) in the 2018 Draft out of Yale University. A converted safety at the Ivy League level, Oluokun transitioned to linebacker in the NFL and steadily developed into one of the league’s most productive tackle machines. At Yale, he was a two-time First-Team All-Ivy League selection, showcasing instincts, intelligence, and versatility despite modest competition. Since entering the NFL, Oluokun has become a three-down linebacker and defensive centerpiece where he has led the NFL in tackles multiple seasons. Through the 2025 season, he has amassed a staggering 1000+ career tackles, double-digit sacks, multiple interceptions, forced fumbles, and passes defended, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors (2022) and Pro Bowl recognition. Widely respected for his football IQ, durability, leadership, and professionalism, Oluokun is regarded as a high-character player who sets the standard for preparation and effort and remains one of the most underrated players in the entire NFL.
Strengths
Elite Tackle Production: Consistently among the league leaders in total tackles, Oluokun shows excellent sideline to sideline range and finishing ability in space.
Instincts & Play Recognition: The former Yale grad diagnoses run/pass quickly and consistently arrives at the ball with proper angles and timing.
Coverage Ability: Oluokun is comfortable in zone drops and man assignments versus running backs and tight ends, which is a byproduct of his experience as a former safety.
Durability & Conditioning: Relentless motor and stamina affords him to rarely leave the field. Oluolun handles heavy snap counts without decline in effort or performance.
Weaknesses
Block Shedding vs. Power: Since he’s not a traditional thumper and likely has to work to keep on weight, Oluokun can be neutralized by large, physical offensive linemen.
Take-On Strength: Oluokun relies more on quickness and angles than raw power when fitting downhill, avoiding direct pops or “hit stick” type plays
Blitz Finish Consistency: While he’s effective when schemed through the A and B gaps, Oluokun is not a natural edge finisher with high sack conversion.
Aggression Risk: Oluokun trusts his preparation and eyes so much that at times, he can over-pursue, creating cutback lanes if initial fits aren’t sound.
Outlook
Oluokun projects as an ideal MIKE or WILL linebacker in a speed-based, zone-oriented defensive system that emphasizes range, intelligence, and coverage versatility. He thrives in schemes that allow him to flow freely, scrape over the top, and operate as a true three-down defender rather than taking on constant interior traffic. He. may never get the recognition he deserves suiting up in a smaller market, but Oluokun’s combination of durability, leadership, and elite production makes him a long-term defensive anchor and culture setter. As he enters the veteran phase of his career, he remains a high-impact starter with All-Pro-caliber consistency, capable of sustaining top-level play as long as he’s protected by sound interior defensive line play.
