Mason Reiger

Summary

Mason Reiger (23 years old) is an athletic edge rusher prospect who spent six seasons at the college level between Louisville and Wisconsin. After missing the 2024 season due to a right leg injury that required two surgeries. Reiger walked on at Louisville in 2020 before he became a key contributor for the Cardinals in 2022 and 2023, when he totaled 13 TFL, 6 sacks, and 45 pressures across the two seasons. Following his 2024 injury, Reiger finished his college career at Wisconsin, where he totaled 6 TFL, 5 sacks, and a career-high 33 tackles. Reiger competed in all 12 games in 2025. The Hoffman Estates, Illinois native was a 2025 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection. Reiger was selected to the 2026 Shrine Bowl and turned heads during 1 on 1 drills in practice, and he ultimately earned the Defensive MVP award in the game with 3 sacks.

Strengths

  • High-End Athleticism: Reiger’s performance at the Scouting Combine backed up the explosion, bend, and quickness you see on tape. Reiger’s 40” vertical and 1.61 10-yard split show off his legitimate explosiveness that translates to gameday.

  • Mental Fortitude: Reiger is a player who has been battle tested. He started his college career as a walk-on before earning a starting role and ultimately missing his entire final season at Louisville due to a right leg injury that required two surgeries and a metal rod to be inserted into his shin. Following those dark times, he ended up not missing a game for Wisconsin, winning Shrine Bowl Defensive MVP, and posting impressive testing numbers in Indianapolis.

  • Red Hot Motor: Think of a player who has had to earn everything and imagine how they would play — that’s how Reiger attacks every snap. Despite some limitations, his effort and play demeanor will never be a reason for a bad rep.

  • Slippery Mover: Reiger shows the quickness, hand usage, and body control to win the edge. These traits show up consistently and allow him to win quick off the snap. According to to Pro Football Focus, Reiger posted a 23.3% pass rush win rate in true pass sets.

Weaknesses

  • Injury History: It’s hard to talk about Reiger without mentioning the fact that he had a major leg injury that required two surgeries that forced him to miss the 2024 season for Louisville and 2025 spring camp for Wisconsin. His 2025 play and recent testing numbers would point to him being fully healthy, but medical evaluations by team doctors will be pivotal.

  • Speed over Power: While Reiger’s willingness or heart won’t be an issue, his strength on the field at this point is mostly as a finesse rusher. For teams looking for a more physical power rusher off the edge, they are likely to look elsewhere in a class full of talented edge rushers.

  • Production: Reiger’s production isn’t necessary bad — especially this past season — but he totaled 13 sacks across 44 college games. Reiger shined with 45 pressures as a sixth-year Senior at Wisconsin, but certain teams (such as the Ozzie Newsome-led Ravens) have historically pointed to sack production often translating to the NFL level.

  • Older Prospect: As is the case with so many prospects in recent years, Reiger is on the older side. He will turn 24 during training camp after spending six seasons in college football. Will it take him off of a team’s draft board? No, but in a class full of edge rusher options, it could play a factor.

Outlook

Reiger is an interesting prospect who has done everything he can do to improve his stock since the process began. He went to the Shrine Bowl and dominated the practices and game and then proceeded to have a terrific showing at the Scouting Combine. His age and injury history will be factors for teams combing through his profile. It is also a deep class for teams looking for edge rushers, but the good news is, teams are always looking for edge rushers of all types and flavors. Overall — if healthy — Reiger profiles as a day-three pick who should settle in as a rotational edge rushing piece who contributes with speed and effort.
