Chris Bell

Chris Bell Player Progression

Summary

Chris Bell (21 years old) is a powerful and dynamic wide receiver who played all four seasons at the University of Louisville. Bell was a 3-star recruit who finished his career with 151 receptions, 2,166 yards, and 12 touchdowns as a Cardinal. Bell’s senior season was his best with 72 catches, 917 yards, and 6 touchdowns before suffering a torn ACL in late November vs. SMU. The Yazoo City, Mississippi native stands 6’2” and weighs 222 lbs. along with big 10-inch hands. Despite the late season knee injury, Bell earned first-team All-ACC honors and was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s best wide receiver. Despite the ACL injury, Bell is still targeting a return for the 2026 season. Bell told the media at The Scouting Combine that doctors said he should be cleared to return by training camp this summer. Bell was viewed by some as a potential 1st round pick prior to the knee injury..

Strengths

  • RAC Demon: Consistently showed the ability to take short completions and turn them into long gains (see touchdowns vs. Miami and JMU for example). While not known as a burner, Bell hit 21.5 and 22 MPH on different occasions as a Senior. As a reference, South Carolina WR Nyck Harbor — who is also also a former All -American sprinter — was clocked at 22.5 MPH this past season. Bell shows the ability to accelerate quickly and pull away from defenders with the ball in his hands.

  • Contested Catch Ability: Bell has shown the ability to do the dirty work and make catches in tight windows. He boasts a career 56.1% contested catch rate and just a 5.3% drop rate at Louisville. Bell is a big-bodied receiver and plays like one.

  • Potential Alignment Versatility: As a Senior, Bell predominately lined up as an outside receiver. However, with his size and physicality, Bell boasts a skillset many teams like to employ in the slot as he can serve as a modern “power slot” receiver who can overpower smaller nickel corners.

  • Steady Improvement: Box scores are not used to scout a player’s NFL potential but Bell’s career shows a player who is on the rise. His production has improved each year on campus, and at only 21 years old, there’s no reason to believe he has maxed himself out yet.

Weaknesses

  • Injury Concern: The obvious first weakness is the ACL tear he suffered in late November. While Bell has been told he should be ready for training camp, it is still something to consider for teams that would have to spend premium draft capital to select a player who is still rehabbing.

  • Route Running Diversity: This is not to say that Bell can’t run a diverse route tree; it’s just that he wasn’t tasked with running the most complex route tree in college. This is not unique to Bell, but there will be some development and coaching needed to fully unlock his game.

  • Run Blocking: “No block, no rock” is an old adage many coaches preach on the offensive side of the ball, and while Bell is not a lazy or bad blocker on the perimeter, he could be an even better player in that department given his size. With improvements to his run blocking, Bell could be used even more in the slot and maximize his tantalizing skillset.

  • Short Area Wiggle: As an explosive player who offers exciting top-end speed, Bell does not appear to have the most short area elusiveness and can be a bit stiff in and out of breaks.

Outlook

Bell is an exciting and ascending receiver prospect who is likely to be drafted at a discount in April due to his late-season ACL tear. The knee injury will be a major topic of conversation but this appears to be an isolated injury, as Bell has not suffered any major injuries in his college career prior to the ACL injury. Bell is now projected to be selected in the 2nd round and is very likely to be worth the wait even if he is not ready for the start of the 2026 season. Overall, Bell offers tantalizing size and speed and should be a playmaker and contributor once healthy. With further development and refinement to his game, Bell offers Pro Bowl potential.
